This carpet originates with the Guerouane tribe, settled around meknes, in northern Morocco. These people moved up north several centuries ago under pressure from other tribes. Their carpets usually show red tones; here this dominant colour is seconded with a violine one that highens the basic red.
The weaving is made based on berber knots, with all knots, warps and wefts made of hand spun wools. As in all ancients and traditionnal tribal carpets in Morocco, the crpet is designed with an open field, no frame closing it. The weaving is rather thick, hence a confortable feeling to both nad and foot. Period: mid 20th century – Dimensions: ca 280 x 180 cm / 112″ x 72″
