Hauz of Marrakech carpet – Ref Z0218

hauz of marrakech carpet

We are here facing a carpet originating in the eastern end of the Hauz of Marrakech, close to the Tadla plains. The carpets of that region belong to people whose ancestors were arabic tribes who moved into Morocco before the 15th century to help the ruler of that time. This explains the presence of elements already found in the flat textiles of arabic tribes from Lybia and Arabia. The architecture of the design of this carpet is close to that of the classical Hauz carpets found around Marrakech, with larges losanges, ondulating lignes in the borders, and motives in lines inside the field. As with all ancient rural traditions, this carpet shows no frame, therefore being an open field matching the universe of those populations. Period: ca 2000 – Dimensions: ca 335 x 120 cm / 134″ x 48″
