This is a carpet from the Beni Alaham, a tribe of berber people, neighbours to the Beni Ouarain. Their carpets are fairly close to the Beni Ouarain carpets, for both graphism and colors. They are woven with superb wools, using the berber knot. Where Beni Ouarain carpets are knotted over the selvedge and a little on the reverse, the Beni Alaham carpets show the usual several cords selvedges, made of black wool and displaying a small indentation. Three columns of small losanges constitute the design of this carpet, along with a small “wasm” made of a losange and a triangle. All of those are very ancient themes often used on moroccan tribal carpets and related to life. Dimensions : ca 350 x 180 cm / 11’8” x 6′.
